GIAC Martin Luther King Virtual Breakfast

GIAC CELEBRATES DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, Jr., with ANNUAL EVENT (virtual)

Facing the Divide – “We proclaim our devotion to democracy, but we sadly practice the very opposite of the democratic creed.” – Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love

This is the theme chosen by GIAC for its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Breakfast to be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 9am.

Although this event will be virtual, it will not lack any of the usual fire power and movement-building that it is known for. We are thankful to the Tompkins Trust Company for being our event sponsor this year, which allows GIAC to bring in a dynamic, talented, rising star as our keynote presenter, Leah Wright Rigueur, Ph.D. https://vimeo.com/487440098/de012198a6. Her presentation will focus on WHY BLACK LIVES MATTER: AMERICA’S RACIAL RECKONING. We also hope to leave space for a short Q & A segment.

Dr. Rigueur is an Associate Professor of American History at Brandeis University and former Associate Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. She is author of the award-winning book, The Loneliness of the Black Republican: Pragmatic Politics and the Pursuit of Power and is currently working on a book manuscript, Mourning in America: Black Men and Women in a White House. At both the Harvard Kennedy School and Brandeis University, Dr. Rigueur leads the Race and American Politics initiative, a multidisciplinary series of seminars and roundtables addressing the most pressing issues in race and American politics. Dr. Rigueur is an ABC News Contributor, most recently seen covering the Georgia Senate Runoff elections on January 5th and January 6th Capitol riots.

GIAC invites you to bring your own breakfast (BYOB), and join its annual event to remember and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
